Making music with Teacher Patty

Colin’s home school teacher, Patricia Morgan, a full-time special education teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District, also works as a supplemental home school teacher with the Carlson home/Hospital Program. She comes to Colin’s home for school time - three days a week for 1½ hours each visit. Though he has to work hard at the activities Teacher Patty brings, Colin is always happy to see her.

This school day, Colin enjoys participating in a music activity. Colin is making music with his desk bells. Teacher Patty props up two Boppys and places Colin in the middle so his arms can comfortably hang over and play the bells, a recent accomplishment. This position – a favorite - allows Colin to have upper trunk support as he concentrates on making music.

Colin's Journey Continues

One year ago, we created Special Kids Place, a non-profit organization whose goal was to inform parents and caregivers of special needs children. Our vision was to develop a website that would provide easy links to a wide variety of subjects and a blog that would chronicle our grandson, Colin's challenging journey. Colin suffers from cerebral palsy and has multiple physical and developmental disabilities as a result of the traumatic injuries he suffered at birth.

From its inception, the feedback about Special Kids Place was positive. As the year progressed, therapists, teachers, parents and other professionals nationwide got on board. We were thrilled. Our Special Kids Place website, http://www.specialkidsplace.org, continues with ever changing entries and detailed resource information. Check it out. However, since Special Kids Place Blogworthy, our weekly account about Colin's progress seemed to generate the most interest, we decided to expand it here on Blogspot. Specialkidsplace.blogspot.com will still follow Colin's journey, but our followers will now be able to more easily comment, share ideas or just say "hello."

Contact us at judy@specialkidsplace.org. We encourage it. Fortunately, Colin does not seem to mind our camera trying to record his every move, so you will get to see just how he progresses. Hope you'll join us on Colin's adventure whether it is in Southern California or somewhere else out there. Your feedback, photos, thoughts, suggestions...will be a welcome addition. Colin's team - parents, sister, caregivers, therapists, home teacher and his grandparents welcome you.
And so we begin...
